How many of you use contracts? I have them but forget to have the customer sign them once in a while.

I have a written contract and use it every tme with every customer. Issues of payment, changes in choices about the mount, and pick up expectations really need to be in writing....dated and signed at the time the animal is dropped off. Any professional working without a written contract is at risk for some serious problems.

I do use a written contract which is signed by customer before any work is started, or any changes in project which will affect charges or overall appearance of mount.

I use a contract on every mount. Not only does it protect me but it also is an affidavit as to the animal being taken legally. I keep all measurements and poses that the customer wants and any details as to what kind of habitat. It also covers me in case of fur slippage. Who knows how the animal was handled before I acquired it. I will try to find a copy of it and post it. I got them from Livbucks on Taxi net, He is a great guy and very professional.

I use one too. I only do fish. But it covers me by having the extra fish in the freezer. So the DNR does not think they are mine and write me up.If they were to show up.Plus I put in the contract that I do not guarantee the final look of the fish on the account of what condition the fish was in when I received it.

Fish head. I thought you didn't need a taxidermy license to do just fish in Michigan? If so why would they come to check you out?

Here is a link to the contracts I was talking about. If you scroll down you will see a copy of mine (Mitchell Taxidermy) You will have to copy and paste the entire URL to see the right link. I was able to copy the photo of it and post it here but use the link to contact Greg (Livbucks) www.taxidermy.net/forum/index.php/topic,39810.0.html

Here's what mine looks like. It's geared toward fish which is what I specialize in. The area code is now 260 vs. 219.

Fishead is right. Even though he does not have to have a license in Michigan to do fish they can still show up and do as they please. A friend in Michigan that also only does fish has had them show up. However it is less likely.
Addtionally in other states were a license is not required to do taxidermy the law enforcement division still shows up.
