are you guys full time or part time, in new york and do you have to get a license or permit to run your company. Because i just started in the art and was wondering if i need anything before i start working with customers.

I'm JUST getting started myself....in fact I hope to do my first Whitetail mount real soon. I bought the Breakthrough videos with Sallie Dahmes and watched them 4 times and I've got a list of needed supplies and tools going. With that and all the info I get from this site I think I'll be ready real soon...well, I guess we'll see! The one thing I haven't done any research on is the laws for taxidermy in NY....but I'm sure somebody here will chime in soon

Ok, from what I could find on a google search New York State no longer requires you to have a license , although they did at one time. You do, however, need a federal permit if you plan on doing migratory waterfowl.

I can't say for sure...I'll have to look into that a little more....but what you said makes sense. I would plan on getting the permit anyway just in case you get a customer that wants a duck, goose, or crow done.
