Every time I mount a deer head I can't avoid getting the hide paste everywhere. It gets on the hair and on my hands, and when I'm done I try to wash it off but the cape dries stiff with the excess hide paste that I couldn't wash out well enough. Could I slide the cape over the form without pasting it first, and then use a caulk-type gun to get the hide paste underneath the skin through the eye holes, mouth, and back seam? This is what Brian Harness did in his seminar with a fox pedestal, I'm just wondering if it would work equally well on a deer.

yep do it all the time, I put a trash bag over the mannikin to make it easier for the cape to slip over. once i get the cape pretty much where i want it i roll the cape back up towards the ears and paste away, i paste everything except where the seam is at this time, then pull the cape back set your brisket and finish in whatever order you like, i add paste through the mouth to reach under the jaw and up to the eyes, i usually paste the eyes from up top before i sew the y inscision, try it out it works pretty good and lots less mess, Derek

I have used the trash bag for along time, and have loved it since it was shown to me.
