I've mounted things but haven't fixed many things. I need to replace an ear on this bear rug which didn't cohabitate well with the owner's new puppy. It seems all I have to do is peel the old ear away from the liner, rebuild the liner with apoxie sculpt, and epoxy and sew the new ear in place. Anything I should look out for before I start?

Sorry I cant help you on this one, I have never replaced an ear on a mount that was already dry, did replace a couple on green hides but that was just a matter of cutting old one off and sewing new one on.

chrisb, I have never had to do a replacement like what you need to do but I do think you are headed in the right direction. So have fun and I do not think you will have any problems.

OK I'm going to just do this then. My girlfriend says I can't screw it up too bad, the bear is already dead.

Find a new ear off a scrap hide that matches the color of the original bear. Rehydrate that area, cut off the old ear that is damaged....and mount the new ear onto the liner, line it up so that it looks convincing. I mounted a raccoon recently, and during mounting the one ear began to slip, so i cut it off and replaced it. Here is a picture of that mount, you would have never guessed.
