I figured I would get a jump on my good friend Cecil to start a new thread of the question of Do you or do you Not Pre-Punch your capes to make sewing easer? For myself when I am putting a cape together I really enjoy having everything going together fast and easy, with myself sending a few minutes with a punch just seams to make life a little bit easer.

I never have but I thin them down good and sharpen the needle on the paper wheel that I sharpen knives with so it slips throught them easy. When I first started I had a little trouble and considered it. I would thin down to thin then have problems with the stitch tearing through, but since I started sharpening the needle it got a lot easier.

I have pre punched in the past, but now for whitetail deer and smaller I do not but will on larger game such as elk.

I hear what you are saying bholmes. I also thin my capes very thin on a rotary wheel but I still punch to save a little wear and tear on my fingers. I guess old habits can be hard to break but then so is my skin and patience.
