How do you get nice evenly spaced gills when they dry mine always dry clumped looking? thanks Eric

I card them with plastic screen that I get from Walmart till they dry. You can use hardware cloth, aluminum screen wire, or anything else that is open and vented like that, but I use the plastic due to it almost lasting forever, no rust or anything.

I use hardware cloth (1/8th inch galvanized mesh screen).
I place a piece between each gill when carding. Double it for largemouth bass, northern pike, and musky. For smallmouth, crappie, and yellow perch that don't have quite the open mouth gape I use only a single piece.
I'll try and get a picture on here soon. I have a student right now and I'm kind of tied up.
