If I want to open a taxidermy shop do I need to know how to mount every thing? Fish, Birds, Mammals, Game heads, etc.

I would say it depends on the taxidermist skill level if he feels he can mount it or not. I do good mammal and fish work but suck at birds, so I do not except them. Their are plenty of good taxidermist that you can farm out your questionable work to. I do my own tanning but a lot of people send out that work.

No, I am the only taxidermist in my area that does birds, fish and shoulder mounts. Everybody else does only deer and farm out the rest.

I am not making any money at it but I am only donig fish right now. But I have been think of trying to do other forms of taxidermy. But I am not sure which area to start.I would like to start at the easiest and work my way up from there, since money is tight.

You dont have to know how to mount everything, but the more that you know how to mount, the more opportunites you have. Or find a good wholesaler for the things that you don't know how to mount.
