when depicting a fish about to eat a minnow would you put the minnow eaten head first or tail first they normally eat them head first right? It depends. When a predator fish usually strikes a forage fish they either go for the eyes or they inhale the fish. Once they get it into their mouth they they turn it around and swallow it head first. If I do a chase scene I run a sharpened wire painted white into the forage fish body just in front of the tail. The other end goes in the throat of the predator fish (mouth open) The wire is not seen from a side view as it stays in the mouth of the predator fish and the forage fish is only partially outside of the mouth of the predator fish.
