Ron of Florida was here for five days and mounted and painted these five fish. I sent him out to one of my ponds to catch the bluegill and yellow perch, when he first arrived, which he didn't complain about. I think these are pretty nice for very first fish don't you think?

Wow Cecil. The fish all look very nice and the guy looks very happy. 5 fish in 5 days would be a challenge for me...unless they were perch. Who else but you could invite a student to go out in the yard and catch a fish to mount? ;D There is no doubt that anyone looking to improve their fish work would accomplish that by rubbing elbows with a pro like you. Thanks for the picture.

Thanks for the picture. The fish were put behind a fan in low humidity conditions, and other than the fin backing no finish work was done until the fourth day. Painting was on the 5th and final day. The closed mouth smallmouth and the bluegill had no gills so they dried fairly quickly. I am also religious about cleaning out the heads well so that allows quicker drying too.

I'm disappointed with the bluegills. They are big but so far they have had flaws. I had some of them in a cage temporarily due to pond repairs, and it turns out that's a bad thing for large territorial fish. Ron's fish was only 9.5 inches but weighed 1 lb. 1 oz. I hope to collect some perfect ones next spring when i run a seine through the pond to collect live perch for Bass Pro Shops. BTW Jeff i accidentallly hit the modify button vs. the quote button on your post hence the "edited by Cecil." Sorry!

9.5" bluegill is one of the bigger ones especially for my part of PA. Offer still stands, if you go to collect any bluegill for sale let me know. Once again nice work Cecil.
