How is everyones workload coming along this year? According to most taxidermists around here it is about average, a few less deer but more small game and birds are running about average.

I got about the same amount of deer in this year as last year, I usually get 3 or 4 more new customers every year. So I didn't loose any work but did not gain as far as deer heads go. But I did get 6 European mounts that I never had before. The all mighty dollar has people by the short hairs and I think they are looking at their options.

I only took in 2 deer heads this year, which is OK since I like to do fish. Thats going good, have a 19 cubic ft freezer full of fish. In PA, I think the deer harvest has been low due to over hunting. PA changed things this year, hopefully the herd will pick back up.

I got about 1/2 as many deer heads this past season. Another taxidermist that I tan capes for says the same thing. This economy is keeping people from spending the money they used to on mounts.

One thing I do is not to set pricing and more are less bargain for a price. I figure a little bit of a profit is better than none. But your right, consumer confidence is just not there.

I know what you are saying J. but where does it stop. I took a fish reproduction job and spent better than 20 hours on it for $125. You kind of feel like a 2 bit w____ when its done.

I don't know where it stops or ends, I do what I have too to get certain jobs, sometimes I charge more or less. If I don't care for a customers attitude I charge extra hoping not to get a job. I don't fix rates, I have 13 other taxidermist located within 10 miles of my shop. Plus all I really want is fish to do.
