Hello first day on here. First of all I'm not a taxidermist, but my 11 year old thinks he wants to be one. He had skinned out a smaller northern pike with the hopes to try and mount it, and he did a real good job skinning it out. We put it in a 75% Water/ 25% Denatured Alcohol mix for 3 days, and when he took it out today it pretty much was dissolving in his hands. He had several tears in the skin and the fins were mushy. Can anyone tells us what we did to ruin this? He has some other fish froze to practice on this winter, any thing different he/we should try so we don't wreck the better ones.

I am really unsure to why that would happen TBH, I've never had that happen to me. However I think perhaps the solution was not covered all the way or was left open to the air for sometime that the DA evaporated and the fish started to break down due to just sitting in the water. When using DA/WA mix I'd like to make sure I put the water in first, then the DA stir it a bit in a 5gal bucket, cover it and leave it for a day until the solution becomes clear before I start putting fish in it.
