I do all my own since I kept my shop as part time with a relatively low volume. Mostly use krowtan and liquatan.

I do all my tanning at home with either McKenzie tan, EZ-100 or Krowtann

I started pressure tanning this year, it cost a few bucks to get started but I think I saves time and shop space.

I have always tanned skins myself. I started with lutan F and went to EZ100. Buying the fleshing machine saved alot of time and effort. We dont have many taxidermist tanneries here ( 3 i that know of) and I did send my own capes to each of them and I didnt really like what i got back.
I think its a control issue to. If a customer brings in an 'iffy' cape i just give it more attention and fuss where as the tanner would just throw it in the soak and put it through the process like the rest.
When i have too much work on i send out some boars and all flat skins though. (I still have 1 child at home and she takes up alot of my time)

aussiesam, are you the same samantha that used to come in Kiwi's chat? I used to go by Croc ther and was pretty good friends with Wayne, although I never got to go to NZ to train with him

Yes Derek. Wayne and Crystal are lovely people, they taught me a few things. Before i did some training with them i was considering throwing in taxidermy altogether but Wayne really got my behind into gear and helped me realise what i was capeable of ....if i put my mind to it.

No I do not have any recipes yet. At the present I have been buying my mix from Dan Rinehart's (due to price). I tried getting the recipe from Wagner ( I think he is the guy that makes the S.S. unit) with no luck. The unit I own is from VanDikes, for the money I think it is the best of the 3 out.

I mostly do my own in house with Krowtann, but send out bears or anything that will be rugged.

I mount about 15 -20 deer a year and I tan all mine my self. I either use Mckenzie Tan or Lutan. I have never used any tanneries, I want to be in total control of my capes once you send it out you have to rely on them.
