OK so i got a bear to tan i am going to use lutan because i have a dvd on it so i can follow it. that tan said you need to use an oil what type of oil should i use and how much is needed

In my opinion, a bear should be sent out to be tanned, especially if it will be a rug. If you are going to go ahead with a home tan, call Lutan and they will help.

OK thanks for the help i am only doing it at home because i need the practice it is only practice if i screw up it is not big deal my uncle got it for free and HE is paying for all the supply's

Practice makes perfect. I assume this is a fall bear? Be sure to flesh it very well. It will slip easily with too much fat. You will see the hair follicles poking through. Be careful to not cut them off. I always do the face first, split, turn, and salt everything. Then work on the rest.

ya i finished the head and all feet today then i just have to finsh the body part

Sounds cool largest thing I ever done was deer,antelaope,and hog nearly no bear if any in Oklahoma.Please post pics when your through.and most of all good luck.

WASCO Soft Tan oil or Protal Oil are both good tanning oils. You will have to really break the skin though for the oil to work.
