I just took the carding off my doe's ears and gues what, I got drumming! With Ear Magic! That's what stumps me. I thought there was no drumming with this method, at least I thought it wasn't possible. But the ears have drummed badly, maybe because I carded them too much and the skin had nowhere to go. I don't know whether to mount up a different deer or just take this one to competition knowing the score wil l be even lower because of this major flaw.

I asked this question on the taxi.net and people said it's probably because I didn't wash the ear skin with soap or put laquer thinner on it to remove oils. Just make sure you do that on your next mount.
I was really bummed to find out about this, but thinking about my doe's other flaws makes me feel better, thinking the other two deer I did are probably better off going to competition than the doe. The doe is short haired and there are many pin holes I would have had to fix, also a few cuts I had to patch up, and the sewing down the back was kind of rough because I had a hard time getting the skin lined up. It had memory and didn't want to go on the form.

alo i would get pics but you really cant tell from the pics. but when u walk up to the mount and feel the ears, they are really thick at the top, drumming at its worst.

If you used lacquer thinner or acetone to clean the ears it will leave a residue on the ears which will react with ear magic and cause air bubbles which will inturn cause drumming, always wash ears with dawn and water when using ear magic, it happened to me once before. Other than that I have no other explanation as to why they would drum.

On the deer that I fixed the ear on in "solving problems" I had used real ear. They made it sound like this stuff was like super stick it, nothing will drum, glue. I also was disappointed, but the more I thought about it, the problem was I did not trim the liners enough. From now on the liners get trimmed at least a quarter inch smaller than the ear
