A horse..Lol that's an interesting project. You'll have to keep us updated on how it goes. I have a couple ideas.
Van Dykes carries a couple lifesize horse forms. Maybe you could call them and ask them if they could do a custom pour for you of only a shoulder form.
Or could you use a zebra form and alter?

I was wrong Jonas don't have any. They only have a life size. I did find this website not sure on quality but might be worth checking out. They have some different pet forms that might also might come in handy someday. www.touchstonetaxidermy.com/TTS_Quality/Catpg_63.htmIt's the only one I found that has a shoulder mount for a horse. If its not what you are looking for I would either get a zebra form like Nina said and make alterations, try to carve one which would be a pain in the butt, or try to do a carcass cast. Since the horse is still alive I would go over there and take a lot of good ref pics. Being a pet you are going to want to get it as close as possible to the real thing and you can't beat ref pics from the live animal that you are working on. Also remember not all horses are alike. So even if you got the form from them you will probably have to make alterations unless you luck out and get the same breed. If I were you I would take a lot of extra measurements then you normally would. Especially around the face area. Good luck and keep us up to date. Tony

A customer with a pet and one with a trophy to mount are 2 completely different type of people. This is why a lot of taxidermist do not or can not want to deal with pets. A pet is part of the family, the owners have been around their friend for years, and know every wrinkle and freckle. And you as a taxidermist you are going to be subjected to the emotional side of them loosing their pet. A trophy hunter is lucky if they have seen the animal for 1 hour, If you put 3 deer mounts together 95% would not know what one was theirs. And if their is a tear shed it is for joy not loss. How many taxidermist do you know that spends hours talking and listening to their customers? Most have you in, listen to your war story, and boot you out, in 15 minutes. If you are going to accept this job, get all the photos of the horse you can, you will never find a better reference. Very seldom do I get to talk to my customers before the unfortunate time, if I do I can not stress enough how important it is to get photos of their pet.

If you can do a good deer you can do a horse. How many taxidermist have ever had an opportunity to do a horse? One thing I tell all my pet customers is their is something I will not be able to replace in their pet, a twinkle in the eye, or an attitude, an expression, something. It is called life, the pet will look great but their is always that little something that I can not replace. I probably get 15 to 20 calls a week and by the time I finish talking to them they have settled down and then I tell them this does not have to be done today, now is the time to get your life back in to some type of order, you have just lost a family member, then give me a call if you want to proceed with this. It may cost me a lot of business, only 1 out of the 15 ever call back, but that 1 is serious and relay appreciates your work.
