The question summited for today regards Hide Paste. What kind of hide paste do you use? What do you use it on, deer only, large mammals , small mammals, fish, etc?

Well I use several hide pastes for different applications. for most applications, deer heads and mammals I use my own homemade water based hide paste, for fish i use just latex caulk. for around my antler burrs I use headlocker epoxy. and for my earliners I use earliner adhesive epoxie, its made by wesco, not wasco. You can purchase it from mckenzie though. for my water based, I use 4 tubes of latex caulk, one 8 or 10 ounce bottle( I don't have any on hand to check size) of elmers glue, and I mix in enough rittles prezervs it to get the consistency I want. I prefer water based because I like having the extra time to adjust my eyes and roll in detail the next day, and its easier clean up. I use hide paste on most everything just to make taxiing the skin easier if nothing else, also if you want to use my formula for the waterbased it won't work with dry preserved hides, the latex will clump up terribly when it hits the dry preservative. just my 2 cents, Derek

I use Wasco' s hide past, it works ok. latex caulk for ears on deer. the first hide past I ordered was advertised as hide past and when I got it, the label on it was tile adhesive.

I used to use the WASCO paste but it never dried in time and always pooled down into the brisket skin on my deer mounts. Since I switched to Buckeye Supreme I will never go back. The stuff is great for small mammals and deer. It's also an awesome earliner adhesive. When I used it on the ears of my last whitetail mount, I had no drumming at all.

Ok, you talked me into it, I'm going to loosen my wallet and try buckeye supreme. my buddy used it and it looked like my homemade stuff but if everybody likes it I'll see if its better. Thats why I like the question of the day, you get to hear everybodies opinions but without being called cheap or stupid like on taxi net.

We use2 types of hide paste, dura grip for all the deer heads and full body mounts, it allows you time to adjust the skin once you have everything stitched and set. Then for a faster setting less forgiving hide paste it is just labeled premium bu Wesco, the deer buts are about all I use it on, the paste looks like oat meal. Small mammals I use a latex caulk and birds I do not use anything, I find you do not need it and can get a better adjustment of your feathers.

I have used Buckeye Supreme and something from Dan Chase don't remember what it was called but I like both. I will agree with riverrat I don't like using anything on my birds.

What are the pros/cons to using linoleum paste. It was suggested to me and I really want to know if the guy was being honest or just blowing smoke up my butt. He told me it was the same as hide paste but about half the cost.
