OK how about your thoughts on pressure tanners.
Do you own one?
Have you looked in to one?
Have you tried one?
Never plan on getting one.

Hi everyone. I don't think I would buy one. They make them sound like they are so much faster because they force the tan into the skin by applying pressure to it, and the tanning cost is cheaper, but think about this. If the pressure in the drum is the same on both sides of the skin, then how is the pressure on one side going to force the tan thru the skin to the other side. All you have is a pressurized drum with a skin in it that is tumbling the skin. If the pressure on one side of the skin was say 100lbs and there was no pressure on the other side, then I could see it forcing the tan into the skin faster. If you put what ever tan you use in a tumbler then it would be the same thing with or without adding pressure to it, or better yet, put it in a big tub and turn or stir it a few times a day.

I own a pressure tanner and think it is great. I rough skin then pressure tan for 1 hour, then do my final fleshing and tan again for 4 hours, done. It takes 1 lb of (what I call) salt to 1 gallon of water. I can take a deer in and skin and tan it in one day and be mounting it the next. The initial cost of the machine is what you have to justify. But no more shipping, no 5 gallon buckets all over the place, no smell in the shop. no screwed up skins from the tanners, etc. I do not know how to go about explaining snappers idea, but to look at the freeze drying process, the vacuum is on both sides of the animal when it is in the machine. The pressure tanner puts the pressure on both sides of the skin forcing the salts in. Hay it works!
