Do you collect your own driftwood or buy it?
If you buy it where or who has the best assortment?
Is their a particular type you prefer?

I buy all mine from Robert Martinez at Texas Driftwood, he has the Wite Cedar and it is allrready cut flat on back side and tumbled clean, prices are pretty good also, and Robert is a great guy to deal with.

I get mine from McKenzie but have also got it from Research which saves me on shipping as it is only one state over. I tried getting my own and wasn't happy. Didn't think it was worth the time and trouble and of course I would have had to cut it on the back myself. And I don't like the idea of potentially bringing in wood eating insects into my log home or my customers's log homes.
I think Martinez supplies both McKenize and Research doesn't he? Isn't he the retired state trooper in College Town, Texas? I do know the wood I get from them comes from Texas. It isn't tecnically driftwood as it's cedar that is cut and thrown in a tumber with gravel. That is why you occasionally find pea gravel imbedded in it.

I collect my own when I go on summer vacations. I can get some HIGH CHARACTER pieces with beautiful grain and lots of roots. It takes a bit of time to clean and seal it and saw it flat in the right place, but it's is unique to say the least. That said, I rarely use driftwood with a mount. If it's a fish normally found around stumps or brush like crappie and bass I might use it. However I never did understand why one would have a fish like a lake trout displayed on driftwood.

Cecil, you are right about Robert Martinez , he is a retired state trooper from Texas and is also a Texas Ranger Special Agent, he does supply the driftwood for several suppliers, I usually get mine at the Louisiana or the Oklahoma shows each year but sometimes he calls and tells me and a couple others in the area that he is comeing through here and if we want soem wood he will load up some and stop by here and we all buy from him to save on shpping, etc. He is a great guy to do business with and can tell you stories about when he was an officer and some of his vacations and talk all day. And mrs I agree with you about the type of wood needing to be the type that would be naturally in the habitat of the type of fish being mounted.
