This is the first mount I've done in a loong time. A few months maybe. It's been way too long. Anyways I thought I would mount this squirrel up before I start all the deer I have to work on. He's not dry in this pic. Gonna post a finished pic soon. I used lots of reference and tried my best, small animals like this aren't my specialty. I know the tail is extremely off, and the hair isn't lined up right or brushed correctly.

yup thats very nice also if you wanted turn the tail so the brownish color is facing down and i never brush my animals until they are dry then i run the risk of pulling the hide one way or another

yea, small mamals arent my specialty either, the first squrl i did looks aweful,i didnt know how to tuck lips, ofcourse its kinda hard with a small critter like a squrl, but anyway, good job,and to get better just keep practicing,if ya have any problems getting gray squrls, which ya prolly dont, let me know,i can get ya PLENTY,no cost, just shipping

It was a good idea to do a squirrel to get back into the swing of things. I like the pose.

Looks good. Not saying Andy is wrong, It's just my preference but I always brush my mounts before they are dry. I think if you place your hair where you want it as it dries it kind of helps hold it in place for when it is dry. IE. If I want a coyote with its hair up on it's back I will keep it brushed up just the way I want it while it is drying. Once it is dry It stays put. You would have to constantly brush it down to get it to lay flat or put something on it. Like I said it's just my preference but I think it helps with your final hair placement. What does everyone else do? Just curious.

i was everything i have in a degreaser if it needs it or not so then it hangs for an hour and then i blow the rest out with my compresser and then i put it on the form so all the hair falls into place (most of the time)

Ordered all the stuff and got a PRISTINE specimen so in about 3 days (gotta get my equipment) I'm gonna mount him Measurements---Southern Fox squirrel young male A-10 1/4 B-6 1/3 He's fairly small and pretty skinny but young and PERFECT coat took him with a ballistic tip .117 shot at upward angle entered kinda large haired spot at neck and is lodged in brain cavity so nearly no skin harm that will be noticeable at all.
Kinda nervious about it---First full mount----also gonna try to be a gift.and I wont have a tail puller : ( But I purchased 4 videos on squirrel mounting and have practice skinning (which I have done for years anyhow) and tail removeal on the non nice specimens.
By the way anyone needing videos at CHEAP price I can hook you up SHHH. this guy makes copies (illegally) but isn't really profiting off it so. they are $4 each and minor shipping for each like 50cents. Sorry Wont give hookup to members who weren't here previous to this post don't wanna get this guy in trouble at all So please only pass him to people you can at least semi-trust.

weasel, you dont need a tail puller. with a squirrel your best bet is to cut all the way down the underside of the tail and gently peel the skin off the bone.
