Alright a guy brought a coyote mount in. He said a buddy of his did it for him not to long ago. Everything is good but the ears. It feels like he used liners but they only go partially up the ear and he must not have carded them at all. They are all wrinkled and bent over. Oh and I think he used borax or dp. He didn't think that it was tanned. So my question is what is the best way to fix it? Do I just wrap a wet rag around them to rehydrate them and card them? If so how long should I leave the rag on? Do I have to worry about hair slipping? Thanks for the help. Tony

Take some wet paper towls and wrap the ears then cover each ear with a quart size plastic bag and seal so the moisture does not evaperate. Just keep checking it every couple of hours till it is soft enough to recard. You shouldn't have any problems with slipping.

When I have a problem with ears on a freeze dried mount I use denatured alcohol, if the ears are not split all the way you may want to use it over water.

if the ears have any drumming in them you may want to try and inject them with soem water or denatured alcohol so they will begin to rehydrate from the inside some also, do not inject a lot but just enough to kind of coat the inside of the ear and help in the rehydration.
