If you mount fish as a taxidermist do you make any money off it? Or would it be smarter to just stick to deer and coyotes?

all depends on your area, ask your local taxidermists how many they bring in a year, but around here, its a BIG part, especially during summer.

I do not do fish. The main reason is because I do not feel comfortable with an air brush. I think if you peruse what you feel comfortable with and enjoy working on you can and will do a better job on the mount.
I do know several people that specialize in fish and do fantastic work. I send my fish work their way and they send their pet and freeze drying work my way. Two of these guys have a year to a year and a half waiting list.
Their are some many different fields to pursue in the taxidermy field, that I feel it would be imposable to master all of them. You have to ask yourself do I want to enjoy what I am doing or do I want to make this a job. If you enjoy doing something you will end up with a much better end product than if you do it as a job.
As far as price you have to feel out your competition, and compare their price and finished product to what you have to offer.

Forms $8 to $15 eyes $6 caulking and clay $1.50 preserving I use denatured alcohol and water solution and use same batch on many fish so it is very cheap in the long run diftwood $5 to $8 and maybe $1 max in paint for each fish and thats about it so profit margin is pretty good
