thanks for the references, a pumpkin seed is what I am doing for the Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma shows this year, did very well last year with a bluegill so am trying something different this year.

My grandson and I caught our limits of whoppers like this one today. I sure wish I had the ability to paint them just like this.

What I find neat about pumpkinseeds is they vary from body of water to body of water. Check out the head markings on this awesome fish!

Your fish doesn't look like a pure pumkin to me. No red tip on the ear tab. Looks like a bluegill X pumpkinseed which could be why they are so large, i.e. hybrid vigor.
