The Ohio convention was a big success this year with well over 200 mounts entered.
My seminar on mounting snapping turtles went real well. Had a lot of people attend, they asked a lot of questions, and hopefully now the have a good idea on how to mount a turtle,( it's not as hard as what most of them thought).
I took a 3rd place ribbon in professional division. The judge was Cary Cochran ( I think he owned Bucky Manikin until he let McKenzie take it over). He sure took my deer apart, Almost every section of the score sheet had a comment on it. Thats ok though, now I know what I have to work on to improve my mounts to move up to a 1st place ribbon, then to master taxi.
When I looked at my turtle, I had a 3rd place ribbon on it in master's division. I had 3 comments on it. The judge must have really known his turtles, he noticed I did not bring the eye lid down over the eye. I never have done this even thou I know I should have been, never been caught until now. One comment he had, I did not agree with, said the neck and body was over filled. This is 2 years in a row I've been nailed on this. Next year I will take measurements along with pictures before I skin it and leave it for the judge so they can't nail me on this anymore. I said they gave me a 3rd place ribbon! after I got home, I looked at the score sheets and I scored an 89, thats a 2nd place ribbon, 2 points away from a first, now I'm trying to get the right ribbon. Make sure you check your score sheets to see if your score matches your ribbon, I will for now on.
