Does everyone generally give family and friends discounts? Do you give a percentage, charge for materials only, etc?
For myself, I don't have a strict policy and it changes case by case.

I don't have that much of a family that I have to worry about this. My son is the only one that would have anything to do with taxidermy. I taught him what I know and he helps me around the shop, he does pay for what ever supplies he uses. With the freeze drying I do offer taxidermist a discount but everyone else gets the same shop prices. You will get in to some sticky situations with family and some people will tell you family is the hardest to deal with.

For family I usually just charge for materials, for some friends I give a 30% discount, others (that try to take advantage) - no discount. I've found friends harder to please than relatives.

I do family stuff for materials. Others I may cut a little if I'm doing more than one piece for the same customer but generally I stick to my price list. I only have to worry about my two sons and a grandson and my brother and his two sons. He's always had property that we can hunt on so I don't mind doing the work.

I do give discounts to family, and friends that I've had forever. Those guys that were always there for me. Mostly, it's the cost of materials.
I also give discounts to friends that send me lots of work. The more work they send, the better the discount. One buddy has sent me 30 customers over the last 2 1/2 years, and when he's ready, it's on the house. Of course it has to be a reasonable mount, deerhead, pair of waterfowl, etc. Not a lifesize large animal.
