Your Opinions the Taxidermy USA show on the Discovery channel.
I am going to open the doors for you, the norm for this forum is to refrain from damming someone or starting bitch sessions, but I think your thoughts should be shared on this.
I sure don’t think this show did much for the taxidermy business. I hate the drama, I know the Tuttle’s got rich with their program but at the same time I quit watching the show during their first years taping.
The idea of doing a life size bear in 3 day is impossible. Now how many of our customers are we going to have to spend hours with trying to explain why it can’t be done.
The better part of my business is pet preservation, their is now way I would send a cat looking like that out of my shop.
I’m sorry but I hope the people watching this program realize this is only a TV show and not the real way taxidermy work is actually done.

Riverrat, I agree. Since that show aired I have customers calling me asking me if they can do a bear mount in 3 days why are they waiting 6 months for theirs. I was happy to see on that show took bad reviews and wont be aired again. Now this show mounted in alaska, well thats fine and dandy too, but in certain states a taxidermist cant deliver a specimen, and they make it seem like we (taxidermists) get our capes back in 3 or 4 days since he tells everyone to come back next week. I wonder what he pays for liability insurance to have that open door policy that a customer can walk around like he owned the place. I cant afford it. One thing the show mounted in alaska is helping me in, his prices are so high, I dont have customers asking me the famous question...why so much...

I haven't watch any of the shows, I did get a call from Left Field Productions who is casting for a show on A&E. It is supposed to be about taxidermist whose inlaws hate them, I declined. Why bring that Jerry Springer attitude into taxidermy, why can't it be protrayed for the art it is.
