My boyfriend shot a 6 point two weeks ago, and put the cape in his refrigerator and kept it there all that time. The fridge is cold enough to keep a deer cape in for a few days if you do not have a freezer, but this was a lot longer time and I figured the cape would be going bad. Anyways, on Friday night Luke dropped off the deer because I told him I would do an antler mount or something, but when I checked the skin, it was surprisingly still ok. It was shot in the head right underneath the eye, and that was the only spot that had some damage, a few hairs slipped off in that spot, otherwise the cape seemed like it was worth trying to save. So I skinned it quickly, and brushed a generous amount of Stop Rot on it so I could have more working time. It must have worked, because now I have the skin sitting in the KrowTann, not a hair has slipped since. I just finished shaving it and I'm glad to say I'll be able to mount this deer after all. Luke will be surprised to see a full shoulder mount of his buck on his birthday. ;D
