I skin it a little way with my knife until I I have a little pocket. Then I usually take my ear opener and slowly work my way into the ear. Don't rush it unless you like to sew. I usually stop just before I get to the tip. Then I finish with a knife to the edges of the ear. Make sure to keep track of where you are at so you don't cut through.
If you don't have an ear opener you will have to use a knife for the whole job. I go as far as I can just using my hand. Then once I get in there a ways I have a small dowel rod that has a round tip and insert it into the ear to take place of my fingers (be careful not to push to hard and tear it) I just use the rod to help keep a little bit of pressure on it to help the knife separate it easier.
I hope I did a good enough job explaining it. I think its one of those things easier to show then to explain, and I'm sure there are other was of doing it this is just my way. If you got any questions or something doesn't make sense let me know good luck.
