Or do any of you do the same? I often find myself cutting off the legs of the deer I cape out and saving them in my freezer for a potential novelty mount. I guess I just don't want to be wasteful of something that could be used. I might mount up some gun racks, lamps, etc. and sell them somewhere.

I saved some of the back hides left over from caping, from the deer I skinned this season. I have about 7 right now, fleshed and salted. I figured I would sell them on the taxidermy.net but no one wanted them, I guess I'll tan them up and maybe sell them to people who tie flies.

I just feel really wasteful throwing away a pretty hide. I skinned a red fox last night for a friend who wanted a pedestal mount (The whole chest was shot up from his deer rifle) and was thinkng of saving the back hide for something, instead I just snipped off the tail. It was a really prime fox.

I also keep the legs. If some one brings me a deer that has the whole deer hide on it I will cape it then I save the rump and mount it. people love them. I always try to have a few hanging up. When the guy that I did that boar for came to pick it up he seen one that I just did the finishing touches on and said I have to get me one of those. I said its yours for 125. He said deal add it to the bill.

I have the kids in the neighberhood mount the extra deer feet up for gun racks for their BB guns. Yes I pay for the supplys but with the look on the girl or boys face I am paid back many of times.

I keep the feet and tails from deer, make a few gun racks but the thing I make that sells the best is a deer foot thermometer, Van Dykes sells the kit very cheap adn only takes a few minutes to make, seems like everyone around here wants one, and the deer tails everyone wants one to hang up, all I do is strip the bone out dry preserve it and glue a shot shotgun shell in it with only the brass showing with a small metal hook on it, usually sell for $25 and only take about 15 minutes to make one.
