Also gotta fluff tail up some I went with the tail more downward. and ayhow they dont really do the normal thing of sittting striat up they are useually staying on all 4 and don't raise tail unless doing defensive type barking. (also I compared them when I put it on mantle and went with best one)

The squirrel looks good for your first, But I can't see too many details. One thing I see wrong is the nose skin needed to be taxied further up onto the "nose" of the mannikan, It looks like you have it down too far.

the mouth looks kinda open, the lips, maybe leave more tucking skin next time, you can wrap the ears in aluminum foil til they dry to keep em from wrinkling, also, the left hind foot, ive never seen one jus hang like that,i know thats the shape of the manakin...maybe try a little wider piece of wood, ill show ya mine, its basically the same form, but looks good, just keep up practice andyoull be a pro in no time

Weasel, You pointed out a few and that's good. The eyes seem to be set too far in,the eye lids are too far upward and puffy in appearance, the nose seems to be pulled too far down, can't tell much about the feet, and I would not leave it on the couch or lovseat because it is just not habitat material. that back leg looks kind of strange just hanging out. it might look better with a larger log something more for him to hang on to. and the nose does look like its pulled down to far.

Ya with a little more review the nose was pooled down a little to far but at 2:45 I was hustlein just to get him done.hence the little under-eyelid tear thing.I had a larger log set out but I guess it casually walked out of my work area and this was the largest one I had I'm going to buy a ciular or oval base plauque type thing and that log will be standing on it then I'm going to kind of work on a base area were I may try to kinda camo that one leg being kinda wierd out in the open. but if nothing else when the baseplate io on that foot will be on the baseplate.

weasel, I'm going to give you some advice right from the start, the whole i gotta thaw it FAST, i need advice FAST i did the face wrong cause i was in a HURRY, do you see a pattern here? especially when you are first starting out nothing is going to be fast in taxidermy, do it right not fast, if you dont have time to properly prepare and mount your animal, leave it in the freezer til you do have the time. I wont even bother to critique the mount because from what i gather you were more concrned with getting it done than getting it done right. it may sound cold hearted but if you slow down and study a pic or 2 of a squirrel you will see whats wrong with the mount. remeber slow down and it will come, god luck, Derek

I thawed it 5hrs total I just asked for a fast thawing methos and once that question was answerd I ended up waiting the time suggested on the cideos. I studied pics,5 videos, and haev studied 2months before I became a member to this forum.I mounted for almost 4hrs .Yes near the end i was rushing and was going maybe to fast but its my first mount there aren't many first mounts that are instant perfections I'm trying as best I can but trust me I prepared more tahn most people do before doing mounts I've asked quit a few questions here and on taxi.net.And no geting it done right was priority I posted it multiple times I was giveing it to my father upon conpletion so trust me getting it done as best I could was top priority.
Maybe you should post your first mount so I can be cold heated and generally mean about critqueing it.You can ask around here I've asked each person questions or asked them by posting I was preped as best that I was going to be for this. and I had videos playing 100% of the time I was mounting and follew them best I could I posted the pics to get tips and help me do better next time. Not be critisized on not being preped or not spending enough time ,and yes I admit I even posted it was FAAR from perfect but it looks pretty good to me for the first mount I've ever done. don't even bother "critiqueing" or critisizeing me in next mounts I do.

I would gladly post the pics of my first mounts if I had them, and yes they were far from perfect, if you dont want your mounts critiqued thats fine, I was just trying to point out that trying to go fast was the wrong way to go about it. and as was already brought up you were on taxi net telling how much you get for squirrels on ebay. I figure putting up with one michael rassmussen was enough for a lifetime for me, so I wont ever critique or say anything about any of your mounts ever again. I'll let every one else tell you how great your doing.

Very well put DEREK, I have also been watching this squirrel being mounted from the first post on hear as well as on the net. Weasel you can check in the archives and you will find from the beginning that I have said time and time again to take your time. Your first post "FAST ADVICE NEEDED" told everyone that you didn't plan this project right, as well as the next 2 or 3 post, then you ask to be critiqued and it doesn't seam that you can accept the advice members forward to you. NO ones first mount came out perfect, put this one on the shelf, slow down and compare this one to the fourth or fifth one you do, and if you can't take the heat don't stick your hand in the fire. In other words if you can't take criticism don't ask for it.
