no more gray needed, we took about 15 pics when she caught it and it is painted exactly as in pics, blue cats in this part of country are more blue than gray.

Nice. I haven't tried a cat yet I was told that I would be wasting my time using the skin, and that I should do a mold instead. Was it very difficult to do? What did you use as a filler?

The skinning was a little harder than other fish since no scales and thin skin, just have to take time and patience, degrease real well and I preserved in den alch, I cast the head and fins since head is the greasiest part of fish anyway, carved the body, covered with caulking to fill any little voids in my carving and let dry. Surprisingly it turned out really well.

I might give a try next year with a channel cat out of my pond. I got some nice size ones in there. Thanks

nice cat jw, I think its the first skin mount cat I've seen that didnt have some kind of shrinkage in the skin, you must have done a very good job fleshing it. its nice to see some taxidermists taking that little bit of extra time to put out a real quality mount. great job, hope the wife loves it, Derek

That's really nice jwj. I always heard a skin mount catfish cant be done, but now I see that it can.

Yes it can be done but it is not really worth it for a commercial mount, at least in my opinion, you do have to cast the head and it is a pain to skin and flesh, then you ahve to carve the body, so for commercial I will just use replicas from now on but this one was special si I did a skin mount on it.

I know I'm late, but that is one of the best catfish mounts that I have ever seen, I love the pose and its coloring. Great Job. =)

Wow that catfish is impressive for a skin mount with all the rib details and all. If I had to bet with somone I would have said it was a replica.

I thought it was a replica. I've only seen one other skin mount catfish and it was quite poor. I was told that doing a catfish as a replica was the ONLY way to go. Obviously not. Great job!
